About Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation offers humanistic and quality patient care to NIH patients who suffer functional decline from disease, accident or psychological problems. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physicians are called physiatrists. They evaluate and treat patients with impairments of the neuromuscular system, functional limitations, pain, and disabilities.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physicians at the NIH Clinical Center assist other doctors and other healthcare professionals with clinical and research study designs that investigate impairment, functional limitation and disability. The staff also assists clinicians in devising functional outcome measures. Education and outreach programs are also provided.
