The Office of Clinical Research Training and Medical Education (OCRTME) supports the NIH Clinical Center’s Mission to provide research and medical education training opportunities spanning the career pathway spectrum. 

From summer internships to continuing medical education, OCRTME strives to effectively train a diverse, skilled, and creative biomedical workforce of the future.

Medical Research Scholars Program

Application Opens September 1, 2024

The year long research immersion program for future clinician scientists is ready to evaluate and select its next cohort! The 10-12 month program is designed for students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, have a strong interest in conducting basic, translational, clinical or epidemiological research and are currently enrolled in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year at an accredited medical, dental, or veterinary program.

Summer Internship Program

Application Opens mid-November 2024

Calling college, graduate, and professional students to join the NIH for an intensive summer research program. Opportunities are available basic, translational, and clinical research; in behavioral and social sciences; engineering; epidemiology; psychology; pharmaceutical sciences; nursing; computer science, bioinformatics; as well as other health related fields.

Academic Internship Program

Want to conduct research at NIH during the school year? Apply now to the Academic Internship Program which allows high school, college, graduate or professional school students the opportunity to intern in the NIH Intramural Research Program during the academic year.

Educating the Next Generation

The Medical Research Scholars Program is a year long research immersion program for future clinician-scientists that advances health by inspiring careers in biomedical research. By engaging students in basic, clinical, or translational research investigations, offering a curriculum rich in didactics and professional development, and featuring a robust mentorship and advising program, MRSP prepares its Scholars to become tomorrow's leaders in medicine and biomedical research.
