The physicians are known nationally and internationally for the basic research in mechanisms of inflammation and host immune response. They are known nationally and internationally for their clinical investigations into sepsis, ARDS, HIV/AIDS, anthrax, and the infectious complications of immunosuppression.

Senior staff are widely published, and have held leadership positions in national organizations including the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Infectious Diseases Society of America and the American Board of Internal Medicine Critical Care Medicine Subspecialty Test Committee.
