Pharmacy Relocated to Renovated Space

Pharmacy Entrance

After years of construction and operating out of temporary locations, the NIH Clinical Center Pharmacy has relocated to a renovated 10,000 square-foot space in the southeast wing on the first floor of the Clinical Research Center within the building 10 complex. This is an exciting milestone in the years’ long journey that began in 2018.

The physical space has been redesigned to be more space efficient and automation has been added. This renovated pharmacy streamlines processes and increases sterile compounding capacity to improve our patients' safety and healthcare experience.

Key features include:

  • Outpatient, Unit-Dose, P-IVAU operations in a single location,
  • Automated inventory management with high density storage,
  • Automated workflows for safety and efficiency,
  • Outpatient Pharmacy pick-up area features acoustical wall coverings and ceiling panels to enhance sound absorption and maximize privacy.

While many things changed behind the scenes, the impact on the patient experience is minimal. Patients meet with a facilitator during the check-in process, continue to check in at a kiosk and the waiting area in front of the first floor travel office remains unchanged.
