Graduate Medical Education (GME): Laboratory Genetics and Genomics Fellowship

Fellowship Program Director: Clesson Turner, M.D.

Overview
The NIH Laboratory Genetics and Genomics Fellowship is for M.D., D.O. or Ph.D. individuals seeking training in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics. The primary goal of the program is to train individuals to become highly-skilled, independent laboratory directors, prepared to deliver state of the art diagnostic genetics and genomic services. The program requires a two-year commitment leading to ABMGG eligibility.

Program Structure
The Laboratory Genetics and Genomics Fellowship program is not funded for salary. All candidates for this program must obtain a full-time position in a relevant laboratory either at NIH or at another local institution prior to applying. Employment should provide a complementary experience to the LGG training specialty and be maintained for the full duration of the two-year program. Training starts July 1.

The two years of the fellowship fulfills requirements of the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Clinical and laboratory training includes the rare and diverse patient population at NIH, as well as rotations through outstanding local institutions such as Children's National Hospital, Quest Diagnostics, GeneDx, and more.

Eligibility
Candidates must have an MD, DO, PhD*, or equivalent degree. This program does not participate in the MATCH. The positions are not funded which means that applicants will need to secure a position in the area that will support their participation in the fellowship program prior to applying. Employment should provide a complementary experience to the LGG training specialty and be maintained for the full duration of the two-year program

Unfortunately, Federal Government Contractors cannot be considered at this time.
