How Does Antibiotics Affect Our Microbiome?
Researchers at the National Institutes of Health National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases seek healthy volunteers for a study looking at how common antibiotics affect the trillions of good microbes that live on and in our body, also known as our microbiome.
During this study, participants may:
- Be asked to take the antibiotic Amoxicillin or Azithromycin
- Have up to 11 outpatient visits over a one year time period
- Choose to be part of a sub study that includes three overnight stays in an environmentally controlled room that measures the body's energy use at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD
You may be eligible if you:
- Are 21-39 years old
- Have no chronic medical problems
- Have no known allergies to Amoxicillin or Azithromycin
Compensation for participation is provided.
Location: The study takes place at the NIH Clinical Center, America's Research Hospital, located in Bethesda, MD on the Metro red line (Medical Center stop).
