A research study is now open for health care personnel who have had close contact with patients and work at the NIH Clinical Center to determine if they have been infected in the past with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID19. The study would like to determine if staff have been infected in the past with SARS-CoV-2. Researchers will look for antibodies in the blood to SARS-CoV-2 to learn if staff have been infected in the past. It is different from the PCR test used to diagnose active infection with COVID19. The results of the study will give researchers an idea of how many people who were never diagnosed with COVID19 may have been infected with the virus. Researchers may also learn if the infection is increasing over time in health care workers and how well the precautions we are taking at the Clinical Center are working. Refer to Study #11-I-0109.
NIDCR seeks adults with and without gum disease (periodontal disease) to join a research study. Researchers want to learn how a person’s immune system affects the health of the mouth. You will have two outpatient visits; oral exam; dental X-rays and photos; blood, urine and saliva collection; and gum biopsy. Study-related tests and procedures are provided at no cost. Compensation will be provided. Refer to Study #12-D-0100.
Healthy volunteers are needed for a research study on traumatic brain injury at the NIH Clinical Center. Compensation is provided. Refer to Study #15-CC-0164.
Do you or someone you know have Biliary Tract Carcinoma? Have previous treatments failed? National Cancer Institute researchers are testing new treatment to see if the treatment helps the immune system fight cancer cells. Treatment and research procedures are provided at no cost. Travel may be provided. Refer to Study #17-C-0082.
NIDDK seeks women 18-40 with PCOS to participate in a research study. Researchers are studying a type of body fat called brown fat and the role it plays in how we burn energy. Participation includes taking a medication daily for 4-weeks, 2 overnight inpatient stays for testing and 2 outpatient visits. Compensation is provided. Refer to Study #17-DK-0054.
NIDDK researchers seek healthy volunteers (18-45 years old) to participate in a study investigating how dopamine affects body weight and eating behavior. Participants must be able to visit the Clinical Center for 5 consecutive days to pick up food and then have a 5-day inpatient stay. Refer to Study #18-DK-0132.
Did you know Primary Liver Cancer is the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Researchers at the National Cancer Institute want to better understand liver cancer to help design better treatments. Refer to Study #20-C-0006.
Metformin related gastrointestinal (GI) side effects (bloating, diarrhea, cramping, nausea and vomiting) are common barriers to treatment in youths with type 2 diabetes (T2D), in whom there are no other oral FDA approved alternatives. NIDDK researchers need your help to test if taking a daily fiber supplement could improve tolerance of metformin. Compensation provided. If you know a 10 to 25-year-old, diagnosed with T2D and needing metformin treatment, don’t delay, call today! Refer to Study #20-DK-0018.
NHLBI reserachers are conducting an investigational treatment study with eltrombopag to help patients with Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA). Refer to Study #20-H-0021.
