Ukrainian health leader discusses collaboration, recovery
Ukraine's Minister of Health, Dr. Viktor Liashko, visited the NIH Clinical Center in mid-December to discuss his country's health needs.
"While we're fighting and [engaging] in combat activities on the frontline," said Liashko through a translator during the Dec. 12 visit, "we're also as an institution thinking about how to improve and develop our health system and we're thinking about research and development and all the potential we'll be able to explore with our partners."
While the battles in Ukraine make the news, the impact on the Ukrainian population overall has spurred the nation's health leaders to look at resources to address mental health impacts on its population, as well as the physical rehabilitation needs of its military and civilian casualties.
