Photographer Bill Branson retires after 33 years.
"Squeeze in a little closer; Give me a big smile; Look here!"
These three common phrases often heard from photographer Bill Branson will surely be missed by those in the NIH community, as he retired April 29, 2017, after 33 years of service.
Talented and good-natured, he won the respect of NIH leadership and the many IC and NIH directors whom he served. From VIP tours, to staff headshots, to patient interactions — Branson has played a pivotal role in capturing many moments and people that make the NIH Clinical Center so unique.
Branson hasn't completely left, however. At the request of the Office of Intramural Research, he will be assembling the vast archive of photos he took at NIH from January 1984 until the present. He has been given an office in the Building 60, The Mary Woodard Lasker Center for Health Research and Education, to tackle this task, as the Office of NIH History's emeritus photographer.
