Clinical Center News

Brittany Barber-Alexander was recently honored by the Clinical Center's Social Work Department with the 2017 Deborah Dozier-Hall Award for Professional Development. Each year since 2014, the department has awarded a staff member who exemplifies excellence in providing training, education or mentorship.

Some of her accomplishments that led to her receiving the award include providing student interns with career coaching and assisting them with resume and job search information; helping interns prepare for the licensure exam by spending time outside of her own work hours to provide study materials and test-taking strategies.

Nominated by her peers, Barber-Alexander has been invaluable in welcoming, mentoring and educating new colleagues on discharge planning and navigating CRIS. Her peers said she is dedicated to the profession and has a genuine compassion for helping others learn.

Barber-Alexander is the third recipient of the award, named for Deborah Dozier-Hall, a social worker who passed away in 2012. Dozier-Hall was an educator and advocate for over 30 years who had a wealth of healthcare experience and organizational knowledge of the NIH.
