Dr. Richard DeCederfelt is the Section Chief for the Pharmaceutical Procurement and Control Section which provides procurement services related to the acquisition of pharmaceuticals, supplies, equipment, and services to support the Pharmacy Department.

Dr. DeCederfelt received his Masters of Science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland.

However, prior to that he had a long standing career with the Department of Health and Human Services as a Commissioned Officer.

Since the early 90s, Dr. DeCederfelt has dedicated his career to NIH's Pharmacy Department. He has been instrumental in designing and implementing the IDMS; also developing guidelines for the handling of vivo gene-transfer delivery and for securing stored medication.

Dr. DeCederfelt's section is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain, including conducting market research, sourcing and purchasing all commercially available pharmaceuticals approved for use in the Clinical Center, managing drug shortages, recalls, and processing expired pharmaceuticals. Helping NIH to keep pace with the ever changing electronic field of tracking and monitoring; he helped to develop a data base, replacing the manual paper-based system, to track Pharmacy's purchase activities; develop a computer based training module; and rewriting IDMS software applications.
