Emily Peugh (Karuk descendant) is a postbaccalaureate fellow in the Department of Bioethics. In 2023, she received her BS in Health Science with an emphasis in Community Health Education and a minor in Health Humanities from California State University, Long Beach. She is a member of the NIH’s Intramural Institutional Review Board and is broadly interested in clinical ethics, genetics and genomics, reproductive ethics, and health equity for indigenous populations. Her current work is on topics related to the use of ancestry information in genetic counseling practice, how to explore moral distress and related concepts in the context of the Indian Health Service, and best practices for the ethical conduct of research in collaboration with American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
