Pius A. Aiyelawo, FACHE
Biosketch
Pius Aiyelawo was sworn in as the Chief Operating Officer for the NIH Clinical Center April 2, 2018. He is the first COO for the hospital whose responsibilities include research and clinical care domains.
Aiyelawo holds a bachelor of arts in management science from Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage, and received his master in public administration from University of Alaska, Anchorage, Alaska. He completed his diploma in National Security – Joint Professional Military Education – Phase I, at the Naval War College.
Aiyelawo served over 27 years in the U.S. Navy culminating as the assistant deputy chief of Research and Development at the Bureau of Navy Medicine in Fall Church, Virginia. He was also an adjunct assistant professor of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics at the F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, in Bethesda, Maryland.
During his military career, he served as the commanding officer of the largest Navy’s overseas hospital, the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa in Japan. He has also served as executive officer at the Naval Hospital in Camp Lejuene, North Carolina; deputy director for Resource Management, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Medical Resources, Plans and Policy, in Washington D.C.; acting chief/deputy chief of the Program Budget Office, TRICARE Management Activity. He is board certified and a fellow of American College of Healthcare Executives.
Following his retirement from the U.S. Navy in 2016 as a captain, Aiyelawo was a senior program director at General Dynamics Health Solutions in Silver Spring, Maryland.
